Family Reuinion & Medical Outreach with ACTS KENYA - 02 June 2010

'Internally displaced' girl gets reuinted with her family after 2 years!
This month ACTS East Africa was privileged to offer logistical support to our partner organization Global Connections, who had a visiting group of young enthusiastic believers, from an organization called Uhuru Child to serve in the larger area of Nairobi, to help the orphaned, widowed and oppressed, as well as doing some environmental work. They helped build schools in the slums as well as a dining hall for a nursery school, and helped with basic needs in orphanages. A smaller part of the group came to film a documentary on Internally Displaced Persons, the victims of the Kenyan post-election-violence that happened in 2008. A young girl, Monica, had lost her entire family during this violence. So the team took her on a long trip to Eldoret, to find her parents and be reunited with her family. This was a very touching experience both for Monica as well as for the team.
After two weeks of hard work the whole group was rewarded with a wonderful Safari to Nakuru National Park, with the added excitement of buffalos on their campsite and hearing lions roar from their tents at night.
“Filming the documentary was an extraordinary experience. I watched Monica hug her parents after two years of separation and I was just standing next to them, bawling my eyes out. What an awesome story to be a part of!”
Medical Outreach in North Kenya
In the same month ACTS East Africa helped facilitate another group, who came from a church in the USA. Their mission was to reach out to Muslims and Christians in a remote part of Northern Kenya. They served largely in the medical area, using this opportunity to share the gospel with tribes who hardly ever hear about God’s Word. One of the highlights for this team was that they got to visit the people in their Manyattas (small traditional villages) to worship with the Christians there and encourage them in their faith. The whole trip to Northern Kenya was very long and very bumpy, but with the help of our guides they completed it safely and with smiles on their faces! They ended their mission trip with a well-deserved break at the beautiful Sweetwaters Camp in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Central Kenya. They got to relax and enjoyed game drives surrounded by many rhinos, lots of other wildlife and God’s amazing creation in the shadow of Mt. Kenya.
“I can’t even begin to list the things that I have learnt on this trip. But I am a different person because of these days!”
“It couldn’t have been better. I was very impressed with how knowledgeable the guides were. They were all charismatic and I loved getting to know them. I speak for the group here in expressing how safe and sound we felt the entire trip.”
“I learned that I am very blessed and how important it is to spread the gospel. I learned a lot about trusting God’s plan and about finding joy in a lifestyle and culture that is so opposite from mine.”
"Your business is a God-send in facilitating our ministries in Northen Kenya. Your guides are doing God's work every day they are on the road."
