South Africa : Cape Town Project

Living Hope Orphans and Vulnerable Children Medical Outreach

Cape Town locals believe they live in the world’s most beautiful city and the merging of oceans and mountains is indeed breathtaking. Equally beautiful is the diverse human tapestry of this city, where dozens of ethnicities have made their home.

Volunteers at the Cape Town project will stay between the rugged mountain slopes of Chapman’s peak and the expanse of the Atlantic Ocean. Daily you will be confronted with the beauty of creation contrasted against the poverty and pain of the nearby townships.

Yet you will find a joy and love amongst the people that is a testimony to the power of God’s word and Spirit. Volunteers will work alongside career missionaries and Christian health professionals at the Living Hope Community Center, which is an initiative that grew out of King of Kings Baptist Church (awarded the 2007 Courageous Leadership Award, a joint project of the Willow Creek Association and World Vision). Living Hope offers the largest local church response to HIV and AIDS in South Africa and has touched entire communities.

There is an open heaven over this place!

Passion for Local African Church

Man and childACTS Volunteers work alongside existing local, church based initiatives that are effectively reaching communities with a hands-on demonstration of Jesus’ love – offering a hand up, not a hand-out. The love, time and resources poured into these projects by ACTS Volunteers massively support and capacity-build the local teams who, in turn, continue the work after volunteers have left, so volunteers are part of something sustainable and effective.

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me … to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning...
Isaiah 61 v 1,3

AIDS Orphan and Patient Ministry

ACTS Volunteers will be working at the front line of the greatest crisis facing South Africa, and the entire African continent today. AIDS has decimated families and left millions of orphaned children – a human tragedy that Living Hope Community Center has confronted with a practical demonstration of Christ’s love. Volunteers will assist patients, visit homes, care for orphans, conduct life-skills lessons in schools, run kids clubs and serve Living Hope wherever else need arises.

Shared Faith

ACTS Volunteers impact Africa with Christ, and leave impacted by Christ in Africa. Shared devotion times facilitated by ACTS & local church leaders invite volunteers
to draw near to God in a time and place where everything is new, trusting that his word and call to missions will be new and life-changing. The daily interaction with other followers in Christ is a wonderful context for growth, ministry and friendship.

Experience Africa

BeachThe seemingly endless beauty of the Cape includes Table Mountain, the merging of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans beneath the precipices of Cape Point, Robben Island (where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned
for 27 years) and the cultural riches of this remarkable city. This will be the ackdrop to your daily work, and there will be time to experience God in the beauty of his creation.
