Zimbabwe: Harare Project
Mission Field: Zimbabwe
Harare is the capital city of Zimbabwe and home to 1.6 million people living in a country with the lowest life-expectancy on the planet (34) due to the HIV/AIDS pandemic and perhaps the worst economic crisis in recent history. Despite these horrific statistics Zimbabwe is a peaceful, beautiful country – a country that was once the breadbasket of Southern Africa. In this traumatic socioeconomic climate Zimbabwe remains thirstily open to the gospel and has long been considered the gem of the continent. It is a haven for travelers, game viewers and adventurers from around the globe - home to the Victoria Falls (one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World), Hwange National Park (a game reserve the size of Belgium) and one million orphans.
“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me. He has anointed me to preach good news to the poor, announce freedom from darkness for the prisoners and release from prison for the captives.”
Passion for Local African Church
ACTS Volunteers work alongside existing local, church based initiatives that are effectively reaching
communities with a hands-on demonstration of Jesus’ love – offering a hand up, not a hand-out.
The love, time and resources poured into these projects by ACTS Volunteers massively support and
capacity-build the local teams who, in turn, continue the work after volunteers have left, so volunteers are
part of something sustainable and effective.
Orphan Care
ACTS Volunteers feed and clothe orphans and also offer love, discipleship and school-fee support, as we trust God to break the cycle of dependency and rokenness through these young lives changed by His Kingdom.
Child Evangelism
Zimbabwean schools are wonderfully open to the Good News and many welcome evangelism and discipleship work on campus and during school hours. ACTS Volunteers make the most of this wide-open door to young lives that are wide-open to Truth.
Shared Faith
ACTS Volunteers impact Africa with Christ, and leave impacted by Christ in Africa. Volunteers are encouraged to participate in shared devotion times and to work through discipleship material – drawing near to God in a time and place where everything is new, trusting that his word and call to missions will be new and life-changing. The daily interaction with other followers in Christ is a wonderful context for growth, ministry and friendship.
African Adventure
ACTS Volunteers will have the pportunity to get away from project
work to enjoy God and to enjoy wild Africa! This
excursion includes the chance to see lion, elephant,
leopard and rhino at Hwange National Park and
an unforgettable visit to Victoria Falls (one of the
seven natural wonders of the world and
international adventure capital).
