Zimbabwe: Sanyati Medical Project

Mission Field: Sanyati

Sanyati is a rural growth point in the centre of Zimbabwe’s rugged Midlands. The mission is set in a hot, dry, sandy region where peasant farmers live lives that have been relatively unaltered for centuries (the greatest number of ailments responded to at the hospital result from cattle-drawn scotch cart mishaps in the fields and on the dirt tracks that carve the dry earth into a tawny patchwork). Volunteers will distribute AIDS buckets from the hospital and train villagers how to dress wounds and administer drugs. This physical, handson offer of healing and expression of love is one of the greatest manifestations and witnesses of Christ’s love in Africa.

When my people in their need look for water, when their throats are dry with thirst, then I, the LORD, will answer their prayer; I, the God of Israel, will never abandon them.
Isaiah 41:17

Offer hands-on healing and love in Africa

ACTS Volunteers work alongside existing local, church based initiatives that are effectively reaching communities with a hands-on demonstration of Jesus’ love – offering a hand up, not a hand-out. The love, time and resources poured into these projects by ACTS Volunteers massively support and capacity-build the local teams who, in turn, continue the work after volunteers have left, so volunteers are part of something sustainable and effective.

HIV/AIDS Buckets

ChildrenACTS Volunteers are taught how to administer drugs and dress wounds by hospital staff before taking medical buckets filled with donated supplies to meet this need. Vols go into surrounding villages and train the families of patients to look after their loved ones. The infected and affecting members of the community are thus equipped with the skills and medical supplies that bring life and hope.

Shared Faith

ACTS Volunteers impact Africa with Christ, and leave impacted by Christ in Africa. Volunteers share devotion times and work through discipleship material guided by career missionaries and local Church leaders. We trust that through the Word and interaction with these servants the call to missions will be new and life-changing. The daily interaction with other followers in Christ is a wonderful context for growth, ministry and friendship.

Child Evangelism

Zimbabwean schools are wonderfully open to the Good News and many welcome evangelism and discipleship work on campus and during school hours. ACTS Volunteers make the most of this wide-open door to young lives that are wide-open to Truth at the Sanyati Mission School.

African Adventure

Microlite over Victoria FallsACTS Volunteers will have the opportunity to get away from project work to enjoy God and to enjoy wild Africa! This excursion includes the chance to see lion, elephant, leopard and rhino at Hwange National Park and an unforgettable visit to Victoria Falls (one of the seven natural wonders of the world and international adventure capital).
